Origin, formerly known as Origin Dyfed, is a cooperative of artists and craftspeople who live and work in Carmarthenshire, Swansea, Ceredigion and Pembrokeshire.
We run a gallery located at 23 King Street in the heart of the market town of Carmarthen, West Wales. The gallery is light and airy, has an upstairs display area and three good shop windows onto the street. Established as a co-operative over 35 years ago, Origin aims to promote the art and craft industry in the local area, to display and sell a diverse range of high quality artefacts, to raise the standards of professional artists and makers and to provide a professional body to represent them.
“When I first joined Origin, I spent time looking at all the work of the other makers, trying to memorize the products to help customers. I felt humbled by the wealth of talent. And then I thought about the hours of work and the years of experience, designing, altering, developing of skills and styles that had gone into these finished articles. By now I have also been privileged to see how some makers’ work is altering and evolving over time.”
