Year of the Sea - Reduce, Reuse, Recycle

This year, our August window celebrates the Welsh Year of the Sea.

Nothing could be more forefront in our mind than the current plight of our oceans and the inhabitants of this fascinating habitat. As many of our makers live close to the renowned beauty of our Welsh coast we are faced daily with the decisions of humanity to use the ocean as a dumping ground for waste and refuse and therefore have made a concerted effort to reduce our impact on the environment as makers and as a business.

Our August themed window not only celebrates the beauty of the ocean and our coastal areas but also highlights some of the effects of our treatment of the ocean. Whether that be the various creatures that are affected by plastic pollution or highlighting products that can help you reduce your overall effect on the environment.

Here's just some of the things we as a business have been changing to ensure we are making choices that are environmentally minded:

  • We have replaced bubblewrap with recyclable cardboard wrap for our protecting our precious items

  •  If you need a bag we have a selection of recyclable paper bags upon request

  • We use paper sticky tape instead of regular sellotape, it works just as well but can be recycled

  • Our new brochures will be made with 100% recycled paper - coming soon!

  • Rather than use plastic based stickers for our branding, we use a reusable stamp for branding our paper bags etc which can be reused countless times

  • We make power-smart choices when it comes to lighting our shop front and display cabinets, ensuring we replace old lamps with LED lights which run on a much lower wattage

  • Many of our shop fittings are made by our makers (such as our fabulous new shop counter) or up cycled from pre-loved shop fittings

Keep an eye out for the next instalment in our blog where we share how our makers are making individual choices in their work to be more environmentally minded.
